It’s a wonderfully creative concept that gives this venue a unique style. Part laundromat, part cafe, LaBar, near Plaza Tetuan in the sprawling L’Eixample Dreta, features cool interiors, tasty treats, sublime coffee and the kind of ambience that inspires you to be your creative best.
You’ll also find plenty of places to plug in and high-quality WiFi. Plus, the staff are very friendly and the vibe is warm and inviting. Be warned… once you get a taste for their homemade empanadas, you won’t be able to stay away!
C/ de Manso, 17, L'Eixample, 08015 Barcelona
A former popular coworking spot in the up-and-coming Sant Antoni area, Origin. Specialty Coffee has a serene, laid back atmosphere, great coffee and a close community of creatives, making it the perfect place to get inspired and get those lesson plans done!
A great selection of coffee and cakes, with a whole load of vegan options, adds to the charm, as does the chilled background music and the excellent service.
C/ de Pere IV, 168, Sant Martí, 08005 Barcelona
This sweet and simple low-key brunch joint in Poblenou is a firm favourite with local digital nomads. High ceilings, neutral tones, natural wood surfaces and floods of daylight make it an endlessly inviting space to get a few hours of work done.
Don’t forget to tuck into some delicious New Zealand–inspired brunch options, including harissa flavoured scrambled eggs, smashed avocado and their irresistible homemade banana bread served with raspberry coulis and vanilla infused mascarpone. Delish!
C/ de Sardenya, 48, Sant Martí, 08005 Barcelona
This large, bright, split-level cafe near the famous Parc Ciutadella is one of the best laptop-friendly cafes in Barcelona. Free WiFi that’s nice and fast, great smoothies, carrot cake to die for and plenty of food and drinks options to keep you sated while you work.
Service is friendly and there’s plenty of plug in points, with large wooden tables that make working a breeze. Overall, an inspiring environment right near the centre of the city.
C/ de Blasco de Garay, 10, Sants-Montjuïc, 08004 Barcelona
Tucked away on a quiet side street between Avenida del Parallel and Carrer de Blai in the hip Poble Sec neighbourhood, the Cactus Café serves great coffee in a chic, cosy space, with double-quick WiFi. Bare brick walls and funky geometric tiling give it a quirky atmosphere, perfect for putting you in a creative headspace as you work.
Like all the listings here, the staff speak English and are an absolute joy. Don’t forget the snacks and drinks – including some of the best shakshuka in Barcelona and a dirty chai that will shake you to your core.
C/ del Bruc, 118, L'Eixample, 08009 Barcelona
C/ del Davant del Portal Nou, 3, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona
This hugely popular Ecuadorian cafe has two spots in town – the flagship location in L’Eixample Dreta and a second locale in the Born. Both are effortlessly cool, with bright natural interiors, and the food is truly sensational.
It gets busy at times, especially on the weekend, but if you time it right you can get a few hours of work done in one of the coolest spots in the city, all the while enjoying some amazing South American coffee. And once you’ve got your work done, have a richly deserved treat… among all the best places for an indulgent late breakfast in Barcelona, this might just be the pick of the brunch.
Various locations
Okay, so it might be a cafe chain in a city of incredible independent places, but Sanwichez is definitely worth a look if you’re looking for a laptop friendly cafe in Barcelona.
Free fast WiFi, decent coffee, good snacks and expansive spaces that guarantee you’ll always find a cosy spot to work. Plus, with around 20 different locations around the city, there’s more than likely a Sanwichez near you.
It’s the best! This is a digital nomad city, so there are a ton of options when it comes to lap-friendly cafes in Barcelona. From beautifully creative cafes and coffee shops to well-designed cafe chains, you’ll find a cafe on every corner.
One word of advice though. Be careful with your laptop when working in Barcelona. The majority of people are wonderful, but there are thieves about. It’s always worth being aware at all times.
Central areas like El Born and L’Eixample Dreta are full of great cafes with lots of space and fast WiFi, making them suitable for working on your laptop.
Always ask if it’s okay to sit and work for a few hours – it’s common courtesy. Also, be sure to buy something while you’re working to offset the use of their space and the free electricity and WiFi.
If it’s a busy weekday or a weekend, you might not be able to sit for very long. If you notice the cafe getting crowded or new customers waiting for a table, consider leaving.
Many people don’t follow etiquette and sit in cafes working on their laptops without buying anything. Cafes lose money this way, so some have taken to actively asking you to buy something if you want to sit and work.
